But apparently when you have a single level home built on pretty much solid bedrock, they just smack that foundation on top.

I took this today on my way between work and the parking lot, my walk of about 1 block. Not so many tourists out and about today. I had a nice lunch of quesadillas with chevré and honey at the local museum and read Illustrated Science, an article about stone age populations in Siberia. Next week is Stockholm week, when all the young clubbers come to Visby and spray each other with expensive champagne and spend mommy and daddy's money.
These were such vibrant flowers. They are in the park, Almedalen, right across from the convention center.
This is what they did yesterday. It took about 8 hours of serious jackhammering with a big machine to dig this ditch for the sewer and electricity.
Stefan said they were swearing at us for making a y-shaped house as they were trying to fit the edges of the foundation together. Apparently they would have preferred a rectangular house - you would think they weren't getting paid by the hour or something.
The pipes sticking up there are from left to right: heater, guest toilet, laundry room, guest shower, guest sink. I typed guest stink just now - must have been a Freudian slip. Next they put on all that styrofoam you see in the background and then the in-floor heating.

It is hard to believe how much progress they have made in just a couple days.
On Thursday Oct 8th, we went to Stockholm for a few days. We did IKEA and worked on picking out some stuff for our kitchen and laundry room, and on Friday we renewed Haylie's american passport at the Embassy and then went to Skansen. Other than that, it felt like we spent most of the weekend in transit: ferry, bus, and subway.

Haylie did some horseback riding. 
At Skansen you can go in the Lemur exhibit with the Lemurs, or in with various monkeys. The Lemurs are funny, because they bask in the sun in a meditative position. Haylie was nervous about monkeys jumping on her so she wasn't all that thrilled. I was more nervous about monkey poop falling on me as they were checking us out from directly overhead.

We were just in time for owl feeding. Haylie liked watching them swoop down and take the food from the keeper's hand.
Haylie did get to ride a real pony, which she did very solemnly and seriously. She loves riding.
We got to watch one of the horses being curried, which she liked. Stefan had to stay far away because the dander was just flying.
